Hmm this feels rather odd. I've not been writing for some time, and masyAllah it feels freaking awkward. But I have two exams coming up in the week, so it's a marvelous time to blog. Yes, I blog better when I shouldn't be blogging. And I study better when I'm running out of time too, so it's a win-win thing! Yes lol, what a horrible attempt to comfort my guilt.
Moving on, the title might make you wonder;
"What part is he talking of?"
Well the answer is easy. No, it's not human organ parts you bastard cannibal. Instead, it's our part in being a good Muslim.
Recent issues show an upward trend of Islamophobia; the prejudice against Muslims. This is especially the case in the West. As Vanderbilt students are concerned, we had the opportunity to witness Islamophobia first hand on March the 17th at IMPACT; a symposium organized by the University's Programming Board.
Ayaan Hirsi Ali is just one of the few aggressors of Islamophobia. In short, she's an apostate who is openly critical of Islam. Yeah I know, WTF? Why do people give a shit about someone who's not even Muslim, but talks about Islam? It just doesn't connect. It's like asking your 7 year old brother for advice on which courses to take for next semester. Ayaan is a long shot from being testimony of the ideal practicing Muslim. She has not fully understood the concepts in Islam. Some of her arguments are not even Islamic; for instance forced marriages which is purely cultural. What the freaking deuce? In fact she hasn't even gotten the 6 pillars of Eeman in tact. Given all that she still criticizes Islam. So really, W, T, F?
Apart from Ayaan, there are NUMEROUS other islamophobic acts recently taking place that it's become unbelievable. Recall Jyllands-Posten in 2005 to name a few. The assault on a Danish Muslim which costs the poor boy his life a few weeks back. The Islamophobic chants at football matches. The movie "Fitna" from Geert Wilders. The movie is the perfect instance of a frequently used technique to distort the meaning of the Holy Quran; quoting a sentence from the Quran out of context making Islam look violent and all that.
Then the question arises;
"How much do we really understand Islam to defend it? What are we doing to help protect the well being of our Deen?"
And that's where I feel we should play our part. We should take the right actions necessary as Muslims. But what are the right actions really? Wait what? You want to commit suicide bombings? NO! That's not the right way to go! It never is. Imagine all the innocent lives that fall victim of a suicide bombing. Then it makes us no worse than they are. And put things in perspective; terrorism is the very nature we aim to shed off of Islam, and committing suicide bombings reflects the exact opposite. Don't get me wrong though, I understand where the suicide bombers come from. Well in honesty "understand" is too strong a word, I can never put myself in their shoes; losing their family members, losing their homes etc. But insyAllah if every Muslim fights for the cause of Islam; Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine will one day see peace again.
Coming back to our question; what can we do to help the cause of Islam? Well I personally think that as students the best thing to do is equip our selves with a good understanding of the Deen. I know I'm not the best Muslim there is, but again the most important thing is to keep on learning. Some people might not be as knowledgeable as others, but that doesn't make us bad persons for only Allah knows what our intentions are. But at the same time we have to realize that there is a bigger picture and it requires intellects; i.e. students like us to spark a difference. So we have to keep on learning though we may not know a lot, but insyAllah if we're patient and consistent we'll get there.
So how would understanding Islam help? Well it's easy. There's the saying that goes;
"If you aim for change; first change yourselves, then change the people around you, and finally change the rest of the world."
Or something like that lol. Yeah I know, I'm a bimbo thanks very much. But yes, be the living testimony of a true Muslim and influence the people around us and that alone helps toward the greater cause of fighting Islamophobia. With knowledge we can also easily counter arguments coming from people like Wilders, Hirsi Ali and other stupid cunts. And hopefully through time, we'll be knowledgeable enough to ignite an even greater change.
But how, you ask? It's easy. There's the Holy Quran to begin with. There's Google; which thank goodness is there. You find answers to really bad engineering questions on Google too. There are also multiple Islamic websites, there are Usrah programs, there are talks from Islamic scholars, there are Islamic classes, there are books etc. So it's easy. No?
So this sounds rather odd coming from someone like me, but let's start doing our part and help the cause of Islam. We're blessed with good minds, with good education, with loving families, with trusting friends alhamdulillah, and so let's use them for a good cause.
InsyAllah. Till later, Salam.
